Using the Ketogenic Diet to lose weight fast
The Ketogenic Diet was first developed in the 1920’s but hasn’t reached mass appeal as of yet. The basics of the diet are to eliminate carbs, sugars, starchy fruits, and starchy vegetables. You are probably wondering what you can eat on this diet? The diet consists of consuming high fat foods and protein.
The Ketogenic Diet is based on Ketones. Ketones are basically fat’s enemy. The more Ketones you have in your body the more fat you burn. Ketones aren’t something you can eat or drink but rather the way your body reacts to not having carbs in your system.
The Ketogenic Diet is a low carb, high fat diet that works by limiting carbohydrate intake. The body converts carbs into sugars/glucose when the body doesn’t have enough sugars/glocose to burn the liver then produces its own "ketones" from proteins you have consumed. The body enters a state of "ketosis". When this occurs the body actually enters an accelerated fat loss.
How do you know if you have entered Ketosis?
ketone urine test strips called Ketostix are available. These test strips are dipped in urine and if ketones are present in urine the strip will change color.
Studies have shown following the ketogenic diet helps control refractory epilepsy seizures in children who do not react to medication.
Exercise and the Ketogenic Diet:
Exercise and diet go hand in hand for maximum weight loss. On some variations of this diet if high intensity exercise is done then some carbs are consumed right before or after intense exercise. Some people feel carbs are necessary to sustain physical stamina while exercising.
