<p>In order to achieve and maintain a healthy weight, the TLC diet helps by allowing just enough calories. To determine the right number of daily calories, you should work with your doctor or a registered dietitian. These general guidelines should help you plan your meals correctly:</p>
<p>Fats &#8211; Limit your saturated fat intake to less than 7 percent of your total daily calories. Remember that up to 25 to 35 percent of your total daily calories can come from fat. Depending on how many calories you are allowed per each day, the specific amount of fat may vary.</p>
<p>Cholesterol &#8211; The amount of cholesterol intake should be limited to less than 200 milligrams per each day</p>

Begin a regular exercising program with your doctor&#8217;s OK. Join an exercise class, try a brisk daily walk or even swim laps if you would like.</p>

<p>A cardiac diet will basically aim to increase the consumption of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and fibre while lowering the consumption of fats and sodium which have both been prominently associated with the development of heart disease. This health plan is often adjusted in the long-term based on the goals of the diet or the patient&#8217;s diagnosis. After a patient has been treated using this diet recommendation he or she will normally be referred to a dietician who will help him or her to maintain this diet.</p>
<p>Generally a cardiac or &quot;heart healthy&quot; diet as it has been called may be administered with the objective of restricting the intake of fat, cholesterol, sodium, and sometimes caffeine. In most instances, it will follow the guidelines of the National Cholesterol Education Program which has issued the following recommendations:</p>
<p>Fiber 20-30 grams per day.</p>
<p>Trans fat &quot;kept at a low intake.&quot;</p>
<p>Carbohydrates 50-60% of daily calories.</p>

<p>Cholesterol less than 200 milligrams per day.</p>
<p>Dietary fats, especially saturated and trans fats, may actually contribute to elevating an individual&#8217;s overall cholesterol levels, low-density lipoproteins (LDL), and triglycerides which can encourage the development and accumulation of plaque within the blood vessel walls. This build-up of plaque will ultimately lead to a decrease in the size of the blood vessel lumen. Saturated fats are predominantly found in animal products. This kind of fat has been linked to an increase of low-density lipoprotein levels (LDL), which are strongly associated with a heightened risk of heart disease. Unsaturated fats differ from saturated fats because they have double bonds. They can be substituted in place of saturated fats and are preferred because they help lessen the LDL levels. Cardiac diets are also low sodium diets. Sodium has been found to increase blood pressure, and has an additional negative effect on the diuretic properties of certain medications. Sodium is generally restricted to 2,000-4,000 mg per day, in relation to the patients diagnosis and medical regimen. Many cardiac diets do not only restrict sodium and fats but also caffeine. This is enacted because caffeine is a stimulant and may affect the deteriorated condition of the heart.</p>

<p>Although you may not be too familiar with the Scarsdale diet plan, it has been around for several years now. So, what kind of diet plan is it and does it actually help you to lose weight fast?</p>
<p>Dr. Herman Tarnover is behind the Scarsdale diet plan. The plan claims a very bold one pound weight loss per day while following the diet.</p>
<p>As with most all fad diet plans, snacking is not allowed and you are limited to 3 meals a day. And like so many diets, this is another low carb, high protein system.</p>
<p>In order to lose the amount of weight the diet claims you can, you must follow every instruction to the letter. The problem is, once you are finished after 7-14 days, you often just put the weight right back on because of the difficulty in finding an eating plan.</p>
<p>Something I found a little out of the ordinary is that the Scarsdale diet plan does not advocate exercise in addition to the diet. But, when you see that your body is only getting 900-1000 calories a day, doing any kind of exercise would be difficult at best. That is a major issue with these types of fad diets.</p>
<p>A typical meal on the Scarsdale diet plan includes:</p>
<p>-One slice of toast, half a grapefruit and a cup of coffee or tea for breakfast.</p>
<p>-Some deli meat for lunch without bread along with carrots and celery.</p>
<p>-Roast turkey, lean hamburger or lamb for dinner. Fruit salad is also allowed.</p>
<p>The Verdict</p>
<p>Following the Scarsdale diet plan you will lose some weight. But, this plan can not be recommended as a long term diet plan due to all of the restrictions. Your body needs more calories to remain healthy and this diet would be difficult to follow after a week.</p>

<p>In any weight loss diet calorie counting can be extremely irritating. Some dieters swear by it and take it a little bit too far while others never even consider it.</p>

<p>It is a difficult question because obviously knowing the calorie levels in food can help in sticking to a recommended level. But the problem can be when you get too concerned with the number of calories in everything you eat and it takes the fun out of eating nice food.</p>
<p>If you have not been checking calorie numbers on food then it is a good idea to get an idea about what the food you eat contains. Doing this will give you a good idea of the nutritional value of your regular meals.</p>
<p>When you have a good idea about typical calorie levels then you don&#8217;t need to worry so much. You should have a fairly good idea when you are eating too much and can keep it in check.</p>

<p>Another good habit that works for many people is to set up meal plans each week. By doing this you can get an estimate of the calorie levels and you don&#8217;t have to worry about it during the day. You are free to enjoy your meals because the preparatory work has already been done.</p>
<p>And you can also feel okay with not sticking to the plan 100% as long as you are roughly within the limit. If you may dieting a chore then there is a good chance that you will not follow it for long so give yourself the best chance of success.</p>
<p>So the key is moderation and try not too make up too many rules that will make any attempt to get in shape a tough task.</p>

This has led many people to stick to a whole food diet plan to lower their risk of disease, keep fat off, and keep their energy levels high. There are a few reasons why this type of diet is so popular and we will explain it for you.</p>
<p>The biggest benefit to a whole food diet plan is weight loss or weight maintenance. Some of the foods that we eat are hard for our body to process. Things like hydrogenated oils (which are in about 90% of packaged foods), white sugar, and white flour were not meant to be processed by our body. This leads to an excess accumulation of fat. The only way to get rid of it is to go on a very restrictive diet and high exercise. The alternative is to have a whole food diet plan. The whole foods are easily broken down naturally which allows your body to use the food as energy and not as stored fat. You will notice that if you consistently eat whole foods that you will have more energy because of this. Also since the body uses the food you will lose weight. If you talk to any athlete or person who is in shape they are eating some form of a whole food diet plan. These are foods like vegetables, carrots, lean meats, fish, whole wheat products, and non fat dairy.</p>
<p>If you are looking to start a whole food diet plan just know to stay away from packaged and processed foods. Look at the ingredients on back and if it says something like beans and salt you know that it is ok to eat. If there is all sorts of chemicals then this food is not one you should be consuming.</p>

<p>A couple decades ago doctors focused on reducing the amount of animal fats in the diabetic patient&#8217;s diet. New scientific evidence has confirmed that reducing these animal foods may indeed go a long ways towards attacking the root causes of diabetes. But in order to keep the day to day blood sugar under control, it is important to cut down on concentrated carbs.</p>
<p><strong>Recognizing the Best Carbs for the Diabetic Diet</strong></p>
<p>The best carbs for the diabetic diet are generally thought to be those that maintain a low ranking on the glycemic index. Look through the list of carbohydrates whenever you are planning out your meals to see which foods are particularly healthy for you.</p>
<p>On inspection of the list of foods of the glycemic index chart, you will begin to see food trends.
