How Important is Calorie Counting in Your Diet?
In any weight loss diet calorie counting can be extremely irritating. Some dieters swear by it and take it a little bit too far while others never even consider it.
But is it a good thing?
It is a difficult question because obviously knowing the calorie levels in food can help in sticking to a recommended level. But the problem can be when you get too concerned with the number of calories in everything you eat and it takes the fun out of eating nice food.
If you have not been checking calorie numbers on food then it is a good idea to get an idea about what the food you eat contains. Doing this will give you a good idea of the nutritional value of your regular meals.
When you have a good idea about typical calorie levels then you don’t need to worry so much. You should have a fairly good idea when you are eating too much and can keep it in check.
If you are at the other end of the spectrum and are overly concerned with calorie counting then it may be time to stop…unless you are achieving great results of course!
Instead of calorie counting you may get more benefit from managing your portions and ensuring you have a balanced and nutritional diet each day.
Portion size is important as more and more people are piling the food onto oversized plates and thinking it is okay because the food is healthy. Having very large portions gets you into the habit of overeating which is not a good thing. Instead eat smaller portions and take the time to enjoy the food.
Another good habit that works for many people is to set up meal plans each week. By doing this you can get an estimate of the calorie levels and you don’t have to worry about it during the day. You are free to enjoy your meals because the preparatory work has already been done.
And you can also feel okay with not sticking to the plan 100% as long as you are roughly within the limit. If you may Dieting a chore then there is a good chance that you will not follow it for long so give yourself the best chance of success.
So the key is moderation and try not too make up too many rules that will make any attempt to get in shape a tough task.
